Bhogichi bhajee


Bhogichi bhajee
a mixed beans veggie with sesame seeds

Bhogi is the preceding day of makarsankranti . Generally it's on 13th of Jan every year but this time  it's on 14th. Basically this is the season of harvesting so it is celebrated in many parts of India. Just the way Pongal in south, Lohri in North; bhogi in Maharashtra.Til/sesame is used in almost all recipes which are prepared to celebrate this season. A healthy combination of the assorted beans is so tasty in itself that you need not add any extra seasoning to make it palatable .

Ingredients
all mixed green beans removed from their pods amounting to 250-300gms

pavta
green harbhara
green peas/watana
bhuimug/peanuts
toor
ghevda ( torn into 1 inch pieces)
1 medium carrot(diced)
1 medium egg plant/brinjal(diced)

1 tsp kaLa masala
2 tsp sesame seeds(roasted)
1-2 tsp freshly grated coconut
1tsp jaggery
salt to taste

Tempering
1-2  tsp oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp asafoetida
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp chili powder


Method
  • Soak all beans in water for 5 minutes.
  • Heat oil in the kadhai. Add mustard seeds. As they crackle add remaining tempering ingredients.
  • Add all fresh assorted beans,brinjal/egg plant. Cover with water in the lid. Let it cook on low flame. Sprinkle little hot water from the lid if required so that it won't become too dry.
  • When cooked add carrot pieces. Roasted sesame seeds.Stir well.
  • Add kaLa masala, jaggery,coconut and salt to taste.
  • Serve hot with bajreechi bhakri with sesame seeds
