Dudhichi pataLbhajee

Dudhi (bottle gourd)doesn't have any taste of its own. To make it tasty we have to take some extra efforts. My sis-in-law(vahini)is a cooking expert who gave me the idea of making spicy veggie of dudhi(bottle gourd). It was ready almost in 20 minutes as she asked me to pressure cook the vegetable.

Ingredients
2 cups of dudhi cubes( peel off the skin and chop into cubes)
1 medium size onion(chopped)
1 medium tomato (chopped)
1 inch ginger
2-3 garlic cloves
salt to taste

Tempering
1 tsp oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp asafoetida
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1tsp chili powder

Method
  • Wash the bottle gourd/dudhi and peel off the skin. Chop into cubes. Pressure cook in pressure cooker.
  • Heat the oil in a  kadhai.Add mustard seeds. As they crackle,add remaining tempering ingredients.
  • Add chopped onion. As it becomes soft, add crushed ginger-garlic & fry along with onion. Add chopped tomatoes. Fry till tomatoes gets mixed up well.
  • Add cooked dudhi with its juice. Let it cook on low flame for 5-10 minutes.
  • When done add salt to taste.
  • Serve with steamed rice or chapati.
